Welcome! This is the first post to a blog I’ve started up where I hope to discuss a large variety of topics and occasionally post photographs. I’ll try to update it every so often but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to do so every day.
I’m a polymath living in the Boston area with a penchant for science, spirituality, photography, creative writing, personality typing, meditation, games, learning, and travel. I majored in theoretical computer science at MIT and double minored in history and planetary sciences (though I never was able to formally complete the history minor as the courses needed to complete the two minors conflicted my last semester). I was admitted to Brandeis as a computer science PhD student but left after a Master’s as I found my interests shifting over time to another discipline. As far as my real job goes, I have been working as a software engineer at Teradyne since 2000 and have been fortunate enough to have been able to work from home since COVID began.
I was raised in the Boston area in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family and went to Jewish private school until MIT. Nowadays I am more spiritual than religious (with a combination of Jewish and Buddhist influences in practice). I’ve always dreamed of going to divinity school when I retire.
Depending on the therapist, I am either mildly autistic, a Highly Sensitive Person (as defined by Elaine Aron), and/or exceptionally gifted (supposedly I have an IQ of 150 or higher, as crazy at that seems). I was a socially awkward math prodigy as a child and had a brief stint two years ago as an online math tutor — apparently I still knew my stuff. Recently I was asked to be on the board of Bright Insight, a community dedicated to the advocacy and education of neurodiverse, twice-exceptional (that is, gifted with at least one disability), and highly gifted individuals.
MIT was a perfect fit for me and I miss the camaraderie I had in that environment. I hope to find this again in the Harvard Club as MIT alumni are eligible for membership. I have also started an intellectual salon for the Boston area which I hope can go worldwide.
Lastly, I hope to be able to post some photos online, making this a combination of a photo and text blog. If you want to buy some, send me a message. I’ll start with one that I recently took in Hawaii at Sunset Beach Park in Oahu. I am a major travel nut, having traveled to over 30 countries and 40 states. My next trip is in Japan over Memorial Day (the combination of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, on which work is traditionally forbidden, and the Memorial Day weekend makes the 5-day break a perfect travel opportunity).
Hopefully I’ll think of more information to post later. Until then, enjoy this picture. I call it “Recursion.”
